Snow Concept Drawings

When last we left Crystal Winter at the NYHoS- I was working on a giant Crystal Tree. It has now turned into a giant Snow Globe . I had to come up with some sort of starting point for the theme of the globe...these are just rough ideas:

Overall feel of water to sky to ice crystal:

I haven't worked on this for a while...stippling is so soothing.

Sir Sagramoure

So I'm to world's worst director. I directed this show for the Hall (which opened two weeks ago), but haven't actually been able to watch it with an audience yet. Tonight we performed it for 185 Girl Scouts, and they LOVED it. The show was great, and it kept cracking me up- especially the part with the Optical Illusions Ogre...

Happy National Fragrance Day

Today for our Art & Science Friday we made lovely fragrances. This was a huge hit with kids, and the staff as well. Thanks to The Bubble Roome for donating some scents! The best part was what the kids named their new perfumes...though everything they made smelled oddly like Brute.

A Butterfly in Queens

A strange sighting of butterflies in my neighborhood:

Mini Golf

We are planning to have a mini golf course at the Hall in the summer of 2009. The team brought in three holes to prototype. Prototyping is fun, because if something doesn't work, you have to be creative and think of new ways to make it work- and a 2 and a 1/2 year lead time gives you a long time to be creative!

My Blik'n Bathroom

My roommate bought a new shower curtain and rug, and I had some Blik layin' around... Here's what you get...

My favorite thing about Blik: The whole project took 40 minutes.

Fun with Tracing Paper

I've been curious about using tracing paper to layer in color and image. Here a some test results:

Vassa Zheleznova at the Duo Theatre

Vassa Zheleznova by Maxim Gorky- boring- No offense Fink.

The Duo Theatre- a hidden Gem. I love theatres that have painted scenes all around the audience.

Sketch from The Umbrellas of Cherbourg

I finally saw an hour of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. You have to love a movie where a woman wears a dress the same color of the restaraunt that she's in. This is just a quick sketch from a black and white movie still I found on the web. One of my favorite words in French is Parapluis.

Noise

The building super installed a new buzzer system in my building this weekend. Every time someone opens or closes the door, an extended high pitched, piercing tone emits from the buzzer for five complete seconds. If someone keeps the door open, then it squeals for seven seconds. I sleep about 10 feet from the door, so it sounds like my alarm is always going off. I have had six hours of uninterrupted sleep in the past two days. I hate this buzzer. Luckily, so does another one of my neighbors who smashed this evening. Now it emits a low squeal that can be blocked with earplugs. This is how I feel:

Creative Overload!!

A major program that I have put together is starting this weekend. Due to a wedding, I had to get everything ready by today. At the end of a long two weeks of cramming for Merlin's Dragon Quest, I realized that my team and I pulled a lot of creative thing off (especially with a next-to-nothing budget). Here are just a few of the things that happened today:

Three hours of INTENSE rehearsal for Sir Sagramoure's Splendiferous Search for Science. Have to say that the actors are amazing, especially for putting up with last minute script changes, photo shoot with graphics, and uninvited television recording.

Merlin has lost 4 dragons in the Hall of Science, and it's your job to find them (and learn some things along the way). It was my job to buy these (which was much harder than expected). They all came the same color, and the awesome guys in exhibits painted them to represent the four elements (water pictured here).

Sheila the Water Dragon is running from a scary fire breathing dragon in the Preschool. We recorded the show earlier this week, but Miriam and Jennifer designed the puppets using aboriginal designs.

More Sagramoure

Here are some images for the keynote for Sir Sagramoure: Castle & Enchanted Forest

Am I a Dragon...

Recorded the vocal tracks for the Am I a Dragon Puppet Play. Special thanks to Ellie, Rachel, and Brian for voicing a kooky koala, kookaburra, and Chinese water dragon. I played Tim the Turtle. Hank played the cat.

Knights for Sir Sagramoure

I have to create a lot (A LOT) of illustrations for Sir Sagramoure's Splendiferous Search for Science- Here are a set of knights. These guys are only going to appear for 4 or 5 seconds in an opening montage.
