Ram & Sita

This is a new long term project that I'm working on. I took a 2 hour Yoga Class today and it was a really amazing, creative experience. I was in front of a huge window, and watched the sun set, while a rain storm passed through, and Sting was playing in the background. You couldn't get more Yogariffic then that. Over the window was a picture of Ram and Sita looking down on me with love. I wanted to do a picture with Sita contemplating the beauty of a flower, and Ram loving her because she would do that.

Secret Astoria Blogger Meeting

Cafe-Bar didn't couldn't have planned to have four bigger celebrities in its midst during the brunch rush. In all the hustle and bustle, a CosCreative Photographer was able to track some of the goings on this morning, and these prints are hot. Remember folks- you saw it here first at CosCreative....

Stella Still, after a raunchy night exploring the effect of her new nail color - 1960' A- Go-Go (circa 1962). I think the photogrpaher got a little too close for Stella's comfort, but he did get a great view of that nail color.

Michellephant trying to keep it on the DL. The foks at Cafe Bar were being silently judged by her discerning taste buds. Good thing the service was speedy and charming.

These gals never gave the photographer a chance.

Neither did CosCreative's Creative Director, who did not appreciate being secretely followed by his own team. Can't a guy just order some eggs.

....speaking of secrets, what were these two up to?.......

Snowman didn't care for the photographer stealing a small sip of his ice tea. Charges are being pressed.

Babboons and other oddities

I work at a science museum creating odd exhibits. Most of the things that my department focuses on has to do with natural sciences- how we illustrate, or represent them, either with craft projects or theatre. My office sometimes becomes a menagerie of strange objects, and today I sat around being creative with some of them. These are the things that I have in my office:

3 baboon skulls
3 lizard skulls
4 cougar skulls
4 monkey skulls
4 otter skulls
2 human skulls
1 giant taxidermy armadillo
1 giant crab
1 large swab of fieldturf (fake grass which we're installing in an outdoor exhibit)
1 Tyrannosaurus Rex
1 giant gourd

I have to put all of these items into our Magic School Bus Exhibit to replace

1 giant ear
1 giant nose
1 giant heart
and a slew of various plastic organs.

Today I bought
100 Praying Manti
100 Ladybugs
12 Hissing Cockroaches
Toads
Hermit Crabs
Crickets
10 Millipedes
10 Centipedes
1000 Kaleidoscopes
2750 Magic Boxes
2000 Butterfly Puppets
1000 Dragonfly Puppets

I also had to translate a french text on Dragons from the Museum of Paris- which someone left on my desk saying- do you read French? Could you translate this.

It takes a lot of preparation to be creative at the museum- and a lot of shelf space.

Hour sketch with prisma and sharpie. Thanks to Getty for a stock image.

Summer Adventure Puzzle

This summer I plan to do a lot of adventurous things- which will manifest itself into a subblog called CosAdventure (coming in July). To organize myself, I started with the puzzle (thanks to the crew at Michellephant for helping me organize my thoughts). The idea is that I'll dissassemble the puzzle, and as I complete certain things, I'll put it back together. There are still some blank spaces left, so if you have any adventurous ideas for what I should do with my summer, please post.

AV Squad

So on Tuesday I had to run a huge event, and do AV- Audio Visual- meaning set up a mic, run the sound, and control levels. This was something that usually hate doing- but for some reason it helped me avoid the rest of the event. There was something very zen like about handing someone a microphone, and checking levels. I felt incredibly in control. Without me, nobody could have said anything.

Waitn for school

This is a big sketch of some kids waiting for school. Sharpie.

Magic to DO

I went and saw a one Ms. Shannon Barry in a production of Pippen in New Jersey. Creatively done, it really reminded me about Community Theatre, and how people actually do theatre because they love it, and how a community forms around it. My roots are in Community Theatre, and I miss it a lot- Got me thinking about starting one in Astoria- but can you have a community theatre in a bourogh of NYC?

Dragon Felt

So this was a present from the people I work with. I haven't done one of these in about 20 years, and now I know why- This type of coloring borders on compulsion- it took about 4 hours to complete- but for some reason, I could not stop working on it. Now I have blisters and my hands are covered in marker and little scraps of black felt- but at least it's DONE.

special card

This is a special card for my friend Michelle- the inside is decorated, but I can't show it until I show her.

Angel & Devil

I'm working on a bag for Tiffany's Bach. Party. It will hold a lot of nasty things throughout the night- so the devil side will be out for the most part.

Gertella almost done

Here is Gertella- Almost finished. Added a lot more pen work, and shadows.

Computer DOWN

My computer has died, so it might take a while to post things- Don't worry- I'll still be creative, and I'll post what I've done, when the computer comes back from the Mac Graveyard.

As you can see- there is a small folder on my computer screen that laughs at me, and flashes a question mark. When I told the macrep on the phone about the little folder, he said, "oh oh." That's something you never want to hear from your computer guy. EVERYONE SHOULD BACK UP FILES!!

Fat: Illustration Friday

This is a free sketch with Sharpies of the kids who usually are standing outside of my building. Man are they fat- someone should run them.

Cat photoshoot

I'm not one of those people who photodocument the lives of their cute furry roommates- but when your cat gets in a bag, or in a tub of his own free will on the same night, how can you not race to get a picture.

I present
Cat in Bag
and
Cat in Tub.

You may give your own titles.

Rash Behavior

Tonight I went to a comedy sketch/ improv show by a group called Rash Behaviour- featuring one miss Jane Gavin, from plasticbraintrain.blogspot.com. Improv is such a strange beast, because not only does it require the people on stage to be funny, but it requires the audience to give funny answers to prompts that the improvers ask. There wasn't a whole lot of people in the audience, so we had to respond alot- which I thought was equally as creative. I have an automatic response to the question- can we have a nongeographical location- I always say postoffice. It led to a funny sketch- so it made me feel creative, without having to break a sweat.

Gertella 5, 6, & 7

So Gertella and I have been spending some quality time together. Here are three different days of work on this project. I've started to do a lot more crosshatching on her, and a quick trip to Sam Flax enabled me to get some darker Prismacolor markers for greater contrast.

Sketch up

I tried out new design software called Sketch up. It's interior design/ architectural software that allows you to do some really amazing things 3 dimensionally- whether you're designing your apartment, or making an exhibit- pretty easy to learn too. There is a free application of it for PC users- it's another amazing thing that google offers. You can download it on www.sketchup.com. For Mac users you can get a limited 8 hour license from the website- it's 8 hours of work time, not just for use within one day- and you can get an unlimited amount of licenses as long as you have a few email addresses. Try it out- hours of fun!

Tiffany's Bridal Shower Book

I was asked to do the cover of my friend Tiffany's Bridal Shower Book. I like requests! I used handmade quilled flowers, and some stick on magnifying dots.

Graceful Gertella 4 & 5

The work on this project is a little slow going- I've injured my thumb, which makes it painful to draw. I can only do a little at a time. 4 has watercolor pencil added. 5 has been smoothed out.
